Hobbies: Web page design, and computing in general. Ireland's history, mythology and legends, and exploring the old sites associated with these. Reading, cycling, playing guitar (acoustic and electric), treasure hunting with my metal detector, Favo(u)rite music: Well, it covers a wide range, but my preferences would have to be electric blues/rock, as played by our own Rory Gallagher, played very loud, and with lots of "air guitar"...:)
Irish traditional music, especially featuring the Uileann (pronounced Favo(u)rite musicians: Our very own Rory Gallagher. The very best blues/rock guitarist there ever was. A great guy with a great talent and personality. Sadly missed since his tragic death back in 1995. Carlos Santana, who I'm sure needs no introduction, as they say. Carlos has been around a long time, and I still love to watch his performance of "Soul Sacrifice" at Woodstock back in '69. Nice to see him doing better than ever with his remarkable "Supernatural" album. The always-indomitable and refreshingly eccentric Neil Young (with "Crazy Horse", his original band.) The Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Both Paul and his lead guitarist, the amazing Mr. Mike Bloomfield, now play in that big club in the sky, but their great Chicago blues music lives on. Eric Clapton. As with Santana, needs no introduction to anyone with an appreciation of great guitar playing. Probably second only to our own Rory G. Joe Cocker.
The guy
with the gravel in his throat, or so it
always sounds like when he's singing. Joe just gets better with age, as his many fans will verify. Saw him in concert
in the Point Theatre here in Dublin some years back, and was totally blown away...(With the help of 32 huge loudspeakers, arranged as twin 4X4s on
either side of the stage!)
Sissel Kyrkjebö, a Norwegian lady with the voice of an angel...I "discovered" her by accident, while looking for Celtic music on the Internet. Her rendition of "An Raibh Tú Ag An Carraig? ("Were You At The Rock?") has to be heard to be properly appreciated on account of her flawless pronunciation of the Gaelic lyrics. Click on the picture to take a look at her official web site. Stevie Ray Vaughan. Killed in a helicopter crash back in 1990, Stevie Ray was one of Texas's best blues guitar players. Another great musician taken away from us at much too young an age... B.B.King.The grand master of the blues, with his faithful guitar "Lucille", rescued in the nick of time from a fire in a club back in the 50s, which started after two guys fought over a lady of that name! Albert Collins. Albert, too, is unfortunately no longer with us, but to anyone who's familiar with the unique blues playing style of "The Iceman", his music is immortal. Tracy Conover. One hot-looking Texas lady who can sing and play the blues just as hard as the boys. A fan's tribute site on the Internet describes her as "Stevie Ray Vaughan in bra and panties", and to me, that's a very nice compliment to pay to a woman who deserves the fame and recognition that's undoubtedly going to be hers in the future... |
